- On page 43, Catherine wonders how it would feel, “…to have to wait for someone to make a word before I could use it. And to have all my words lying out in the open, complete strangers able to walk by and see everything that mattered to me, without even knowing my name.” Imagine you were Jason. How would you feel?
- What fears does Catherine have when she is around Jason? Do you think her fears are reasonable? How might you help her to get over her fears if you were her friend?

Catherine enjoys going to occupational therapy because they pass the waterfront on the drive there and because sometimes Catherine and her mother go to the park and/or Elliott's Antiques on the other side of the road.

Jason is this boy who can’t walk or talk and has speech therapy at the same place David has OT.
I think drawing helps Catherine because it helps her look at the world in a different way. What I like doing in my spare time is reading and writing. When I read I travel everywhere without actually going there.
Being on David’s side means you support him and try to help David. People might not be on David’s side because they don’t want to support someone who is not normal.
If I were Jason I would most likely feel helpless. I would feel helpless because I wouldn’t be able to talk or walk and I would not be able to enjoy the things I can do right now.
I think Catherine fears that Jason wants to be more than her friend and she doesn’t know what to think of him. I think her fears are unreasonable because she should just appreciate him for who he is.

1.Catherine enjoys going to occupational therapy with her mother because in the summer they go down to the park and sometimes down to the beach. They also go to Elliott's Antiques sometimes.

2.I enjoy spending time with my dad. I really like reading with him at night for a while before I go to sleep.
3.Jason is a boy who is about 14 and goes to occupational therapy at the same time as David. (Catherine’s brother) Jason cannot speak. This is why he goes to OT. Jason uses a communication book instead of speaking.
4.When Catherine is drawing she can express herself and how she is feeling with big lines, or small lines, or lighter colors, or darker colors. When I have spare time I enjoy getting exercise and playing my bagpipes.
5.It might mean that people worry about everything David does or says or hears and don’t pay attention to anything Catherine might have trouble with. People might not be on his side because they dislike him because of his differences or are jealous that he gets all the attention.
6. I would feel frustrated that if I wanted to say something, I would have to either use other words to describe that word or try to make a sentence without the word. I would also feel very limited in my life because of being in a wheelchair. In occupational therapy I would work really hard to learn to speak as well as anyone else in the room or at least enough to not need as many words in my communication book.
7.I think Catherine fears she will treat Jason like a younger kid because of his disability or do something that will make Jason’s mother angry. I think her fears are reasonable because it is easy to treat someone like a younger kid if they can’t speak. If I were Catherines friend I would tell her that she should treat Jason as if he was just another kid she was talking to.

ReplyDelete1.Catherine enjoys going to occupational therapy because she gets to go to the mall sometimes with her mom ,she gets to spend time with her mom and she gets to spend time with her mom.
2.I love spending time with my brother. We play together all the time. One of my favourite memories with him is playing together with cars he always loved it when I played with him.
3.Jason is a boy that can not speak so, he has cards that he points at to tell what he wants to say. He loves guitars and guitar music.
4.Drawing helps Catherine stay calm and relax. I like to go for bike rides in my free time.
5.People might not be on David’s side because of how he acts and that he is different in some ways then most people.
6.I would feel so left out and open for everyone to see and I would feel sad.
7.Catherine fears that she will be seen with Jason and she thinks that she will be seen as a weird person if she is with Jason. I think that she should not be afraid to be with Jason.

The 2 reasons Catherine enjoys going to occupational therapy is that she can see Jason and that she can go to the stores near O.T.
ReplyDeleteThe people I enjoy spending time with the most is my sisters Emma and Lauren. My fondest memory with them is whenever we go anywhere.
Jason is a guy at occupational therapy where Catherines brother goes. He is in a wheelchair and he can’t talk so he has to use cards to talk to others.
Drawing helps Catherine because she loves doing it and it calms her mind. Something I like doing in my spare time is going on my phone and going to the mall.
Not being on Davids side means that if he did something that was wrong they might get angry with him even though its not his fault.
I would probably feel frustrated because you can’t explain something if you don’t have the words.
The fear Catherine has around Jason is that people will judge or even her. I feel that her fear is reasonable because everybody would feel at least a little. If i knew Catherine I would tell her that you shouldn’t care about what people feel about you or people you know.

One of the people I love spending time with is my brother because I only get very little time with him because he goes to boarding school so when he comes home I like spending all my time with him and I enjoy me time with him because when we are together we always have a fun amazing time.
3. Jason is Catherine’s little brother who is autistic he is very nice but sometimes Catherine gets very annoyed with him because he does weird paraphernalia and does things that are opposite of normal and even though he is ten he sometimes acts like he is five.
4. Drawing helps Catherine because it helps her express her feelings and it takes out her madness and calms her down she also likes just sitting by herself and relaxing she also likes imagining a world where Jason was normal and she was the center of attention.
5. I feel people would be on his side because they might feel because of his problem he might be challenged so they feel bad for him and would want to help him. I feel people would not be on Jason’s side because he might sometimes act different and be annoying.
6. I would feel very sad because I would have to flip through a book to talk and I would feel scared because if someone has me I can’t scream or get help.
7. Some things she might be afraid of is he might want to say something but Catherine won’t understand what he has to say. I do not think her fears are reasonable. I would help her getting over her fear by telling her nothing is going to happen because nothing has ever happened before.
