8 Rules
In Jonas' new work package, one piece of paper outlined the 8 rules he had to live by. Rule#8 stated "You may lie."
- Why does Jonas find the instruction about lying so disturbing? 3 Sentences minimum. (What would you feel/think if you were given this "permission"?)
- Which rule do you like best? How would you use it? (3 sentences minimum). If you can't remember the EXACT wording of the rules, then grab a book to help you (page#68)
Remember: Draft your answers in Google Docs. Edit them for clarity and details; PROOF READ them for COPS before copying them into the blog editor and posting them.
Jonas thinks lying is disturbing because he has never lied before and he thinks his parents lie too. I would think to never use it because i never would lie to my parents.
ReplyDeleteThe rule i like best is from this moment you are prohibited from dream telling to your parents because i don’t like telling dreams to people. I would use it to not tell my dreams because i would never tell my dreams in the first place.
NB
Why does Jonas find the instruction about lying so disturbing? 3 Sentences minimum. Jonas thinks living gabal bhand jones tells his parents that they should bring in the 2 twin the giver is jonas grapa. (What would you feel/think if you were given this "permission"?)
ReplyDeleteWhich rule do you like best? How would you use it? (3 sentences minimum). If you can't remember the EXACT wording of the rules, then grab a book to help you (page#68) you can not tell your dream to his parents in the morning and his siblings when his family is having breakfast.

1) Jonas may find lying disturbing because he hasn’t really done it before and maybe doesn’t feel good when doing it.
ReplyDelete2) The child limit seems like a good rule, that would help again overpopulation.

I feel pretty bad for Jonas he could lie because he could not be trusted that way. He sees color everywhere when his parents and friends can not. If I was given that job I would be lucky, but not other people would be able to see.
ReplyDeleteI like the bike rule because nobody can steal peopleś bikes and can not find the rule on the book.

ReplyDeleteJonas finds it disturbing because if other adults had received the same rule when they turned twelve, they could have been lying to Jonas the whole time. If Jonas asks his dad a question, he could lie. Some things in the community could have been different a long time ago but the elders are not telling them the truth.
1. I would use this rule if you have an extracurricular activity after school. This a good rule because you can’t get distracted or be late. It also puts in good habits to not be late and get down to work.

ReplyDeleteI think Jonas finds lying disturbing because he was brought up not to lie since he was born.If he did lie they would punish them. Jonas also finds it disturbing because maybe his parents had the choice to lie and have been lying to him all this time.
I kind of like the child rule only because it would help with overpopulation but otherwise i don't really like it.

Jonah finds that rule disturbing because he was told his whole life not to lie and now suddenly he is aloud to. I would be pretty surprised to if I was told I could do something that was forbidden to other people.
ReplyDeleteI like the rule that says I can’t apply for any medication. (Buckley's medicine in DISGUSTING). It might not affect the community but I like that rule.

In the second paragraph it says I like the rule where i can't apply for any medication- that rule is from his list he got after he was appointed as the receiver of memory.

I think jonas finds the rule you can lie disturbing because in the place he lives in you are only aloud to tell the truth. I think he also thinks it's disturbing because he has never lied before. He also may think that it is bad because he was told never to lie. I think i would be fine it i got jonas task.
The rule I like the best is you have to volunteer for volunteer hours when you turn a certain age. I would use it so when i turn the age i can volunteer i would volunteer for working with the babies and making sure they are getting fed. I would also volunteer at the house of old because they are getting old and have trouble doing stuff they would do when they were younger.
emma
He thinks that because he thinks his parents won’t trust him at all
ReplyDeleteI would like the rule with no switching bikes. I would use it as a way to get away.

Because his whole entire life has been taught to never lie, and he just thinks that it’s wrong. Well i sometimes lie already but if my whole entire life i was taught to not lie, and then i was just allowed to lie i think i would like it because it's more freedom but also hate it cause it’s wrong.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite rule is the one where 4’s, 5’s, and 6’s have to wear jackets buttoned down the back and seven, eight and nine and higher have buttons down the front, because when the children are little they need to learn teamwork. I would probably ( if i used this rule ) would still use it the exact same way because then children learn how to ask people to help them.
HG
Jonas finds the rule, you may lie, disturbing because he lives in a community where you are told not to lie. There, they are told they must be honest. If I were in their community and I was told this, I would probably also feel disturbed, but also confused.
ReplyDeleteI like the rule: From this moment you are exempted from rule governing rudeness. You may ask any questions of any citizen and you will receive answers. I like it because that way I would be able to ask any questions, rude or not. I would not use it very often because I know people like their privacy.

1: Jonas finds the instruction about lying so disturbing because he thought nobody ever lied. So suddenly knowing possibly everyone is allowed to lie, definitely shocked him. If I was given this permission, I don’t think I would really care that much because lying about simple things isn’t a big deal.
ReplyDelete2: My favourite rule is: Do not discuss your training with any other member of the community, including parents and Elders. I like this rule because whenever I come back from somewhere, for example school. I don’t like anybody asking what I did or how it was because I just left I don’t want to relive everything that happened. Also, I feel like just not having to discuss your training will help because his training is complex and hard to explain to others.

I think he found it disturbing because he was taught to never lie. He thought what if the giver told everyone that.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite rule is do not discuss your training with anyone because i don’t like to explain things about my day.
Paige
I think he finds it disturbing because he was taught never to lie. Because he grew up in a community where no one lied. I think I would feel really confused I don’t really think i would feel disturbed.

Honestly I like the rule where Jonas is allowed to lie. Not because I like to lie but because it would be so hard for me to tell people everything. I think I would like to keep somethings to myself.

ReplyDeleteI think Jonas finds the rule about lying so disturbing because no one that he knows has the right to lie. Especially children of his age. Later Jonas wondered if his parents were too, granted that privilege. If I had gotten that privilege I would not use it often just when I needed to.
My favourite rule is the one where you are allowed to ask rude questions because then I could ask whatever question I wanted. But of course only when necessary.

1) I think that Jonas finds rule #8 so disturbing is because his community is very polite and respectful to one another. He would have never even thought of lying to somebody because that was how he and the community's children are raised. If I was given that rule, I would be disturbed too because if you lived in Jonas’s community, you would have never been taught anything about lying because it is unacceptable.
ReplyDelete2) My favourite rule is Do Not Discuss Your Training with Any Other Member of the Community, Including Parents and Elders. It would be helpful because after a long day of painful training with the Giver, I would not want to discuss any of it with my family for they might get scared of me going there again and I would be tired too.

I think jonas finds the instructions about lying so disturbing is because he was told not to lie his whole childhood. If you lied in Jonas's community you would get in trouble/punished, and when you're taught to do something your whole life it's usually hard to get out of the habit of doing so. Jonas is so used to not lying he finds it weird/disturbing to do so.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite rule is that you have to do volunteer hours. I think it's good doing volunteer hours. I think it's the only good rule because you're helping out the community. The only rule I stand by is the volunteer rule, and honestly I think there are too many useless rules for instance the “hair in ribbons” I think that girls under the age of 9 should be able to do whatever they want with their hair like have it in a ponytail or down just in general. I think that rule is really useless like there's no point to it.

1 I think he is so disturbed because he was taught harshly to never lie, and he is not used to change because his community runs the same like clockwork. He also saw other people get punished harshly for lying, and is terrorized and conditioned to not to lie. Humans also do not like change. I think he is also worried that all of the children at the ceremony of 12 got the same rule so he will never know.
ReplyDelete2 Precision of language because I sometimes get lost for words, and then I say things that don’t make sense. It is so important in the community, i will learn it from a young age a that problem would be removed. Also i think it would be nice to know what every body is saying.
Evan
I think the rule #8 is disturbing to him because he is already used to not lying, but telling the truth all the time. Just unexpectedly having the right to lie, probably shocked him alot. If I were told to have the right of doing this, I would feel worried, because everyone might of gotten the right of doing it.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite rule is Do Not Discuss Your Training with Any Other Member of the Community, Including Parents and Elders. I think it keeps your thoughts and secrets in your head, even if you need to talk it out. I would not discuss my training with people but the giver by keeping it a secret, and when someone asks you about your training, just bring it to another subject.
